Fasting Effectively

What exactly is fasting some ask, is it all about keeping away from food?

It is a time set apart to fellowship with God, receive grace and power for the fulfillment of His will in your life. A time where people experience a breakthrough on matters they have been reaching out to God on. God has the opportunity to position you into the things He has planned, which you prior had no knowledge of. It is a time of restoration of the things you may have lost; new opportunities are opened up.

Here are some thoughts on making your fast effective

Be Intentional: For fasting to be effective, you must be intentional about it. No one entered into a fast in the Scriptures without having clear-cut objectives. What do you aim to achieve with the fast? Understand also, that it is not the starvation that God rewards, but that the staying off food enables you to be more sensitive to the things of the spirit, and your spiritual activities become more productive.

Spend Considerable Time with God.

Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Spend quality time with God in worship, prayers and the word. Get quiet before Him and minister unto Him with your sole purpose being to please His heart. He has a lot in His hands to give to you, which you are not even aware of. More time should be devoted to consciously ministering to the Lord. There He will speak to you about things that are to come and guide you into all truth.

Spend Time Also Feeding i.e. Meditating on The Word of God.

Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Mutter it to yourself, repeating the promises of God to you throughout the day. The time you usually spend on meals preparing and eating spend it now on meditating on God’s word. The way into our natural belly (stomach) is through the mouth, it’s the same way into our spiritual belly (human hearts). You must get the promises of God and His word to you in an abundant measure. Also, you can save up time spent on social media and spend same on the word.

Allow for Angelic Ministration.

Daniel 9:21-23 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

During a fast, we receive a lot from angelic ministrations and this assistance is principally in the form of information they are bringing to you. They give supernatural insight into the things. Angels are attracted to an atmosphere where God is reverenced and ministered to in worship, and where the individual or group practices hospitality and helps those in need. Kindly be conscious of this. Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Acts 10:3-4 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, what is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

Allow No Root of Bitterness

Matt5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

Pray for those who have offended you in the past. Pray the same blessings you have believed God for into their lives. Make sure your heart is clean towards all. The vehicle bringing your full restoration travels through the path of reconciliation. Pray for others who you know have some need in their lives or are facing some adversity.

Be your own Prophet.

Spend a lot of time prophesying into your life the things He shows you in the scriptures. The prophetic utterances release the river of living waters into the streets of your life. It is there the power of God is actually released into your situation and the Spirit of God enters into your affairs.
